This places have an history (often something dirty) and sometime it's even scarry (IIRC there is one with a piano and a painting. Basic sidequest is : there is some place who are haunted, you comme and either fight the ghost or try to find him (then often kill him). There is a few side quest who are really interesting. It's "you have to stop a bad guy" kind of story. I will be thrilled, though, if I never encounter another trophy or achievement that requires me to spend a bunch of time playing roulette, slot machines, poker, or similar RNG-based gambling. They are still partly "collectibles" in a sense, since they're location-based and often require some degree of guide to find them all, but since they require some degree of skill, I don't consider them regular "collect-a-thon" trophies like the "shoot 200 pigeons" sort. The regular difficulty setting is usually enough of a challenge for me, OTOH, that anything significantly harder will just leave me frustrated and unhappy with the game if I succeed in a battle under those conditions, I don't feel an adrenaline rush or sense of achievement, just relief that it's over.Īs for alternative trophies/achievements, things like the GTA series' "stunt jumps" can be a fun addition, and sometimes card mini-games like Gwent or Caravan can be. In between quests/missions, or on nights when I don't feel up to the challenge, I can enjoy relaxing by following a guide to grab collectibles or similar things. I can always not do them, and I haven’t on a couple recent games, but I am also a little slightly bummed out that that’s the thing that keeps me from completing a game Even worse is when a video guide only exists. They’re such a massive drag and I really don’t want to waste the time and energy by playing through a game with a guide to follow while looking for those. But I’ve been challenged to do so by going for achievements and I can say, I can’t think of a bad experience I’ve had while doing that.īut, I am finding that I really don’t have the patience for collectibles any more. I don’t think I would ever play multiplayer modes, speed runs, challenge runs, boss rushes, or hard mode on most games. Trophy hunting has been a great way to see all aspects of a game I really like and to push myself to try different things. I’ve learned as a player, I’d much rather spend a good amount of time with a game I really like than bouncing from game to game to make progress on a backlog. I love going for achievements generally but I’m right there with you on collectibles.
